take a lesson from mike on how to make your wife (girlfriend, boyfriend, significant other, lover) happy:

  • get a great job so your family has options about things like working and daycare.
  • put yourself in charge of the following chores: dishes, cooking, computer system administration, updating child's website.
  • be very patient even when the discussion (argument) lasts longer than the time you mentally allotted to it when she said, "we have to talk."
  • come up with the idea about taking turns feeding your baby during the night. follow through with your plan, thereby allowing your wife the luxury of sleeping for an entire 8 hours without interruption except for the few seconds it took her to thump you on the back when you didn't wake up from the baby crying.
  • realize that the "batch" method is a much better way of mixing formula than the "as-needed" method. add "mix batch of formula" to your list of nightly chores.
  • figure out what your wife wants to hear and tell it to her every day, e.g., she looks good, she's skinny, she's sexy, etc.
  • make your wife coffee every morning. make her breakfast lots of mornings, too.

emily update: she's curious. about everything. also she wants to taste it. everything. plus her arms seem to be growing and she's now better able to control their movements. that means that she grabs at everything: hair, glasses, pictures hanging on walls, basically anything in reach at any time. it's fun watching her discover and explore the world.

fitness update: some days i'm at my goal weight and other days i'm not. having surgery has put a cramp in my workout schedule and that's a drag because exercise truly is addictive. i guess it's true what they say about endorphins, natural high, etc. even though it's been less than a week since my surgery, i went to the gym at lunch today and did a very mild workout, just 30 minutes on the stationary bike. it felt good. keeping up with my daily exercise is very important and i want to make sure that i continue to do it after i'm a stay-at-home mom. my tentative workout schedule is:
    • monday: cardio workout class offered by san mateo parks and rec dept. (babysitting for an additional $7 -- what a deal!)
    • tuesday: jog with emily in the baby jogger
    • wednesday: strength training class offered by san mateo parks and rec dept.
    • thursday: jog with emily in the baby jogger
    • friday: strollerobics!
    xoxo
