last friday mike and i got an unexpected offer from my father-in-law: did we want him to babysit. what, did i hear you correctly? you're giving us a friday night out? uh, sure!

the only problem was what were we going to do? i tried to book us a room at a recommended hot tub place in palo alto, but they were booked. i contemplated renting a hotel room, but couldn't see spending the money for only a few hours. [sorry, mike!] then mike came home from work and reminded me that we had a party invite -- to the orkut.com launch party in san francisco. should we go? i rummaged around in my decidely-mommy wardrobe and put together an outfit that i hoped was even remotely close to what the kids are wearing nowadays, dug out my makeup from under the bathroom sink, and said, "let's do it!"

besides the joy i felt in getting an unexpected offer to babysit, i was in a great mood because i had made a great big pot of chicken soup that day and that tends to make me feel good for some reason. i like having big pots of food in the fridge. it makes me feel prepared. for what, i'm not sure. but if a whole dinner party of starving guests unexpectedly shows up at my door, i'm ready.

i got a taste of another kind of chicken soup at the party. some chicken soup for this mommy's soul -- a guy flirted with me! a guy who wasn't my husband. a guy who i guess couldn't tell that i was a MOMMY, and therefore as undesirable as if i'd had my husband's name tattoed on my forehead. right? or is being a mommy sexy? lucky for me the only guy who has to answer yes to that question, does. happy valentine's day, mike!

p.s. i've started a new online scrapbook for emily. if you haven't already, go check it out.

xoxo
