i'm addicted to decorating shows. my favorites are Clean Sweep and Designer Guys. i also watch Divine Design, In A Fix, Design on a Dime, and Surprise By Design. you gotta love tivo. you've got a life. tivo gets it! (tm) [although in my case, the tag line would be: you've got a kid who won't let you watch uninterrupted TV during the day because she keeps shutting the doors to the TV armoire, crying, going into the "forbidden corner", or in some other way demanding your attention. tivo gets it!]

growing up, my grandma always said to me, "if you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself." that philosophy works perfectly when you're decorating on a budget and you have no funds to pay somebody else to do things for you like shop, paint, move furniture around, organize, etc. so instead of hiring a team of people make my living space pretty and functional, i'm obsessively watching home decorating shows, filing away tricks and tips in my mental filing cabinet, and -- you guessed it -- doing it myself. now don't get me wrong, if i had the money to hire a decorating team, by golly i'd do it. in fact, an official "i've made it" milestone in my life will be when i can afford to hire somebody to do my painting for me. oh, the joy...

decorating update: i am this close to finishing the painting of emily's room. i've got only the second coat on one more wall to do. then i need to finish painting the chair rail trim and install it. i want to be done with her room by next weekend when i'll start painting the kitchen.
