mike and i had a scare last week that we decided not to share with family and friends until we knew the scare was over and everything was OK.

it started with a phone call last friday from the genetics counselor with the results from our amniocentesis. she started by saying that the baby does not have down's syndrome or trisomy-18. good! however, she said that they did find something and that to explain it to me she was going to have to reveal the sex of the baby even though she knew we didn't want to know. i said OK. she explained that the baby had a "little something extra" on the y chromosome and that they wanted a sample of mike's blood to see if it was inherited. in other words, if the baby's y chromosome matches mike's and mike is healthy, then the finding isn't significant and we won't worry about it.

this really wasn't the way the either mike or i wanted to find out that we are having a boy. mike raced over to redwood city kaiser and gave them a blood sample that day. then we had to wait until this past wednesday to find out the results: the chromosomes match! it seems that in less than 5 months we will have a little mike-alike. oh boy!

weight gain update: down .5 pound to 156. at 19 weeks i've gained a total of 14.5 pounds. not sure why i'm losing weight; it's probably the stress.
