in my last entry, i promised i'd write my post-wedding flower-making reflections. i lied. I guess i just don't care about flowers any more. been there, done that. one thing i wish i had done differently is bought some bridal magazines to get ideas for arrangements. everything else went pretty much according to plan.

i'll be 37 weeks pregnant this friday so the time is approaching when baby brother will make his entrance. auntie jennie will watch emily when mike and i go to the hospital. da da denis will be back-up. here's emily's user manual that i wrote up for jennie and denis:

note: these instructions don't advise when to change emily's diaper. in general, change it when she wakes up, if a horrible smell is coming from it, or if it's hanging to her knees.

7:08 am -- emily wakes up. leave her pajamas on unless they're wet with pee. we leave them on so that she can be as messy as she wants to be with her breakfast.

7:30 - 8:30 -- emily watches tivo'd sesame street while you check email or make coffee or both or sleep some more or whatever.

8:30 -- breakfast. emily usually eats a scrambled egg with cheese and some fruit. if we have no fresh fruit, give her some canned peaches. give her a bottle of water after breakfast.

9:00 - 11:00 -- play, run errands, clean house, work on computer, etc. emily will alternate between playing with herself, playing with you, needing some attention, being perfectly happy, crying a little, possibly going poo, etc.

11:00 -- heat up an 8 oz. bottle of milk in the microwave for 40 seconds. bring emily and bottle into the nursery. sit on blue armchair with emily on your lap. she'll hold the bottle and drink it while you read her a book, sing a lullaby, or just be quiet. when she's done with the bottle put her in her crib, give her the yellow blanket, and tell her to have a good nap. leave the room. she usually goes right to sleep. she may fuss for a few minutes. don't go back in the room!

some time around 12:00 - 1:00 -- emily wakes up. if you haven't already, change her out of pajamas and into some clothes. don't worry about shoes unless you're going out.

1:00 -- lunch. emily usually has some lunch meat, maybe some cheese or some goldfish crackers, some fruit, perhaps some raisins, or just whatever you're having. give her a bottle of water after lunch.

1:30 - 4:30 -- play, run errands, clean house, work on computer, etc. perhaps a walk to the playground? emily will alternate between playing with herself, playing with you, needing some attention, being perfectly happy, crying a little, possibly going poo, etc.

4:30 - 5:30 -- emily watches tivo'd blues clues while you clean up the kitchen and make dinner.

5:30 -- dinner. emily will have whatever you're having or some tortellini and canned grean beans is fine, too. give her a bottle of water after dinner.

6:00 - 7:00 -- watch the news and play with emily.

7:00 -- bedtime. here's the ritual:

  • heat up an 8 oz. bottle of milk in the microwave for 40 seconds. put the bottle in the nursery on the table by the books. try not to let emily see the bottle or she'll cry. don't give her the bottle yet.
  • put baby bathtub in big tub. fill it with warm water. use a little baby shampoo to make bubbles.
  • undress emily and put her in the bath. if she cries, it usually means that the bath is too warm. you don't have to wash her hair. just splash her with the soapy water and let her play with mr. octopus and mr. frog. the bath takes about 5-10 minutes total.
  • take her out of bath and dry her off on the changing table. put on her pajamas. she doesn't like this part and will probably fuss and cry. just try to be fast; there's not much else you can do about her crying.
  • sit on blue armchair with emily on your lap. she'll hold the bottle and drink it while you read her a book, sing a lullaby, or just be quiet. when she's done with the bottle put her in her crib, give her the yellow blanket, and tell her to have a good night. turn off her light and leave the room. she usually goes right to sleep. she may fuss for a few minutes. don't go back in the room!

7:08 am -- emily wakes up. repeat previous day.

    xoxo
